"As a comprehensive research university, UB has excellent cross-departmental resources for CSEE graduate students."
Samuela started at UB as an undergraduate computer science major, found the environmental engineering program ("I've always had a passion for conservation"), and moved right in. She is now wrapping up her M.S. and starting in the Ph.D. program, working with Dr. Christina Tsai on problems related to hydraulics and transport, specifically in the nearby Niagara River (of Niagara Falls fame). She has been on the river sampling the water column at various depths in various places, but she works primarily with models: models to characterize what the river is transporting, and models that may eventually yield good predictions of water quality under variable circumstances.
While at UB, Samuela has taken courses in the geology and chemistry departments and has studied probability in the industrial engineering department.
